Harley PDF  | Print |
ImageImageMeet Harley, an 11 month old (as of Nov 1/11) border collie/pointer/aussie shepherd cross.  Harley is a sleek, young, playful fellow who gets along well with any dog. He is a bit timid of new people at first but once he is comfortable he is quite affectionate.  Harley is new to hart and still working on house manners but he is progressing well and is already crate trained.  He loves to go into his house for dinner.  Harley will make a great addition to any household looking for a physically active, energetic playmate and companion.

Jetta is ready PDF  | Print |
ImageImageOur beautiful little friend Jetta has progressed to the point that her foster Mom says she is ready to start looking for a furever home!  If you have followed Jetta’s story you know she was rescued from an area near the Edmonton International Airport after it was discovered she was living there and crossing the QEII on a regular basis to get food and shelter.  She proved to be quite a challenge to capture, which is why she had survived so well where she did.  With the help of numerous volunteers, hart was able to get Jetta into a foster home and her foster Mom has been working hard with her ever since to boost her confidence and trust.

Well it has paid off as she will come out of her crate now and meet new people, even if a bit cautiously still.  Jetta will still do best in a home that is relatively calm and quiet as she will likely always be a nervous pooch. So a house with young children or very active dogs will not likely suite her.

Jetta is crate and house trained.  She will walk on a leash but very cautiously.  She is quite an escape artist and will require lots of patience and attention to settle into her new home.  If you are looking for a very quiet, loving little black fox, please contact hart for more details on this special case.

Belosh PDF  | Print |
ImageImageMeet our friend Belosh.  Belosh was rescued a few months ago from a northern Alberta community and flown down to Edmonton by his foster mom.  Since arriving in Edmonton, Belosh has been making huge strides in adapting to city life as well as home life.  Belosh is a gentle loving giant of a dog who knows house rules and loves children.  He is great on leash, loves car rides (although hasn’t mastered how to get into the car yet) and is looking for his furever home.  If you are interested in a large lab cross who is about 2 years old, please check out Belosh.

Connor PDF  | Print |

ImageConnor as a 12 week old (as of Jan 27/11) Shepherd/Husky cross who was recovering from the mange he was born with.

Check out what Connor’s foster Mom had to say about his August debut:

ImageImageConnor came to us 4 months ago with a bad case of mange and almost no fur. He now sports a blonde coat and he even sheds!!!  Connor is energetic compared to his older foster sisters and the grumpy old cat.  He quickly learned his place and has fit in beautifully.   Connor sleeps and eats in his kennel and often stays in it while we work. If it is warm out he and his sisters stay outside in the fenced yard.  He is very well behaved in the house but requires supervision as he has been known to chew a shoe or two.

Connor has had plenty of exposure to children and likes them. He is a bigger guy and may jump or soft mouth but it is always well intended.  Connor is skittish with people at first and is afraid of anything new but warms up. He has been going to the dog park to get over his fears. He is getting more confident all the time.

Connor is a family guy who has lots of energy at 10 months old, but settles down easily. He is good with other dogs, cats and children. He can walk on or off leash, LOVES the car, and if you give him a chance to fit in with your family, he will be your furever companion.

Allison PDF  | Print |
ImageMeet Allison, formerly known as Allison Skinnybones!  She is a golden lab cross, and is approximately one year old, by the veterinarian's estimate.

Allison was found up north on a First Nation Reserve.  She was spotted by healthcare staff scrounging for anything remotely close to food.  What was so alarming about Allison was how emaciated she was.  How was this little dog, with below zero bodyfat surviving in 46 below weather???  I burst into tears when I first laid eyes on her.  I tried in vain to catch her that week, but was unable to find her.  I feared the worst.  One week later, there she was in the yard of the RCMP compound where I was visiting.  I put my hand out to her, and she timidly walked towards me.  I pulled her into my arms and brought her to my house I was staying at.  It was apparent that Allison was riddled with worms, lice and mange to go along with the grossly emaciated body.  She loved being petted, but your approach had to be slow, as she was very timid and skittish.Image

Once we arrived in Edmonton, we were promptly sent by hart for a vet check and Allison began her long journey back to health.

Today Allison loves playing with her fellow rescue friends in our home.  Our pack will miss her greatly, but we know she needs a home that can give her their undivided attention.  I  know that Allison does well with other dogs once she is introduced, but she will also do well in a situation where she is the only animal in the home.  Allison still shies away from sudden movement or loud voices, but the severity has been greatly reduced since she has been with us.

If you think you can give Allison the warm, loving, healthy home she was looking for that first day, give hart a call to meet her in person.

Steffi PDF  | Print |

ImageImageImageMeet Steffi.  She is about a 1 year old boxer/rotti mix who is looking for a very special furever home.  Steffi was rescued last fall pregnant, with mange and suffering with distemper.  As a result of being in quarantine for 6 months to deal with all that, Steffi forgot how to greet other dogs but as always loves people of all ages to pieces!

Hart has worked hard over the last few months to increase Steffi's social skills with other dogs and the hard work is paying off.  Steffi can now meet and be around other dogs if they are well behaved good communicators and non-agressive.    She needs some time to get used to being around them but then she is ok.  The work continues with trying to get Steffi to not react when the other dogs bark at her, but one step at a time.

Steffi is awesome on leash and with slack leash walking.  She loves car rides (she  initially jumped into a rescuers vehicle without being invited lol and that's how she came to be with hart).  She loves playing fetch and wrestling with her toys.  Steffi is especially fond of stuffies and doesn't even rip them apart.  She knows her basic commands - sit, place, shake a paw, high five and roll over - though if she is excited she has trouble focusing on the task at hand as most young dogs do.

Hart and Steffi sure would like to find the perfect furever home for Steffi.  One with either no dogs or good doggy communicators and patient people.  Do you have the home Steffi has been searching for and certainly deserves?

Gus PDF  | Print |
ImageImageMeet Gus a Shih tzu X who is looking for a new home.  Gus came to hart via Athabasca where his owner was no longer able to properly care for him.  Gus is a loving young fellow (2.5 yrs old as of May 2011) who gets along well with other dogs and is learning to trust people.  Gus will require some help with house manners and some reassuring that he does not have to be afraid of people.  If you are looking for a little house mate, and are will to spend some time helping this fellow to get back on track, contact hart to learn more.

Chauncey is adopted PDF  | Print |
ImageImageMeet Chauncey, a six month old Papillion cross male.  He is very cuddly and quiet but a little bit timid at first. Chauncey is working on his house training and basic commands and will make a great addition to any pet friendly household.

Bailey is adopted PDF  | Print |
ImageImageHere is what Bailey’s foster Mom has to say about him: This guy is quite the character. He looks up at you and he looks like he's smiling at you. He's got a face you can't resist. The vet actually thinks that he is younger then the 5yrs we thought, more like 2 or 3 yrs old. He's doing pretty well. He's getting along well with my boys who are 9 & 6. It's funny to watch him and the cat as they vie for the dog bed I bought. Overall he just ignores the cat or gives her a wide berth. He does pretty well with other dogs. Some growls to start but overall things are good.

He is pretty good when he meets new people. A little shy for a few minutes but then he loosens up and is more receptive. He loves going for walks and ideally needs at least one good walk per day. He likes the snow until his paws get too cold. Bailey still has a tendency to cower when you "approach" from above, even just to put his collar on he'll hunker down, but he is learning to trust more everyday.

Bailey's "training" is coming along about as well as can be expected with a dog that many feel has terrier in him LOL. He's doing pretty good with his sit and down but still needs some work for come or here. (Very much on "his terms" kind of response). He's ok once you get him in his crate but generally takes some gentle coaxing to get him in as it is not his favourite place.  Sounds like Bailey is developing into a great little poochy pal.

Kei is adopted PDF  | Print |
ImageImageImageKei was the runt of the litter, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in personality. Kei is a 8 week (Nov 23/11) old husky X puppy who is looking for his furever home.  He is living in his foster home with a couple of resident dogs and learning all the tricks of the trades from them.  Kei loves to play but will certainly stop for some cuddle time.  Would Kei be able to find a furever home at your house?

Mickey is adopted PDF  | Print |

Mickey is still learning to trust people and build his confidence, but he is improving every day.  He is also working on his house training and basic commands, and his foster mom reports that his improvement is great.  Mickey would love to move into a furever home and make you fall in love with him.

Tuna is adopted PDF  | Print |
ImageImageBy Tuna’s own foster mom’s description, this little puppy has to be the greatest ever.  She is only 10 weeks old (as of Nov 1/11) and already she is learning to ask to go outside to do her business, she is crate trained, and loves to play fetch (with anything she can grab).  Tuna is a husky cross who has that cute husky trait of “chatting” when she plays or yawns.  She loves to have her tummy rubbed, especially when she is being cuddled.  Tuna gets along well with other dogs and spends time with the resident pooch and plays well.  Tuna will make a great cute, cuddly, fuzzy addition to any dog loving household.
